Save the Seals (or whatever you want!!)

I was checking my e mail and I saw this mail from PETA (yeah, I may be superficial and apparently dumb, but I'm not, ok?, don't be surprised if I come up with this kind of topics):

"The 2009 Canadian seal slaughter has officially ended, and we're happy to tell you that this year, about three-fourths of the seals who were scheduled to be bludgeoned or shot to death during the annual war on seals were spared. More than 300,000 of these gentle creatures were scheduled to die during the blood bath on the ice, but more than 200,000 seals did not suffer the cruel fate that Canada had intended for them. They did not have to feel the pain of having their skull bashed in or feel what it's like to have a hook stuck through their eye, cheek, or mouth—just so that their fur could be stolen for "fashion."

This dramatic decline in the number of seals who were killed during the slaughter is largely because the price of seal fur has fallen over the years as the disgust over the slaughter increases. The European Union and the U.S. have banned seal products, and world leadersDemonstrations from London to Hamburg and Los Angeles to Toronto have made the headlines, and kind people all over the world have sent a strong, united message that the seal slaughter must end. have spoken out against the massacre..."

It made me think: If that amount of seals can be saved just because the price of its fur is lower thanks to the lack of buyers, what would happen if everybody stop buying meat and all kind of animal products? How many animals can be saved just by stopping eating them?

I'm not asking you to become vegetarian or vegan, it's a hard process (I'm still in it) or a radical defender of animal rights (please don't kill president Obama for killing a fly!!) but there's many ways you can help, not only animals but the environment, or any cause you want. But if you really want to be a veggie, or helpanimals/environment, here are some sites that can help you:

Peta, VegCooking, Meat.com to convince you hehe, there's a petition you can sign on Peta2, it's called Meat's Not Green and it's about both reducing pollution and saving animals, you can get more info on the site.

There's also GreenPeace, and if you love Green Day you'll love this: Green Day+NRDC, also on Myspace: StopGlobalWarming, It's Your Nature, Rock n Renew, Teens For Organic, for the New Yorkers, The Big Green Apple. You can add even Al Gore!! xD

And don't forget to +friend Peta2 and Action for Animals here on Buzznet!!

There are plenty of groups you can join, and there are plenty of ways youcan help, choose the one you like better and satrt making a difference!

Emocrunk or the abscence of Creativity. (Pt 3)

Chapter 3: Alcohol and Pig Squeals

"Let's get fucked up"??

After watching a whole video of these "artists" my ears were hurting so bad that I decided to just read their lyrics.

Apparently, kids love the Black Eyes Peas so much that some of them decided that they couldn't decide, so they mixed emo with some... unexpected rythms. That's, resuming, the way emocrunk was born. Nobody expected it, nobody asked for it, but it's already done.

Oh, Millionaires, Millionaires, what can I say about you? Just look at this masterpiece:

Millionaires, you gave me a really bad earache, also, my common and fashion senses got hurt, as well as my inner feminist. After reading the lyrics of most of their songs (they're all the same btw) I found out that in their song "Painted Bitch" they critizice a girl that is just the way they said they are in their other songs. Does it mean that they don't like themselves?

BrokeNCYDE ("crunkcore to expand ur mind" HA!) it's just the worst band I've ever heard. I found a song called "Bree Bree" and at first it made think about our dear BreeSays, but then I clicked play... "Bree Bree Don't cut, don't cut this pig" Just riddiculous. I can't believe I stained my Youtube history for that.

3OH!3 is just a joke, they know it. And they love it.

A question that has been on my mind since I heard the Millionaires is: What does their parents think about their music? I remember Ryan Ross saying that his parents probably wouldn't let him have a record as "explicit" as PATD's "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" but it is not that bad, I mean, it is explicit, but it's not vulgar, and the Millionaires' songs say things like "come get fucked up! give me my alcohol let's get fucked up!" and "we'll take off our underwear!" I'm not a puritan but I still believe in decency and good manners. I'm not the kind of people who get scandalized by sex talks, and I actually talk about sex a lot, and I drink, but it's totally different! I can't understand why people with such bad taste and that amount of vulgarity can be that famous.

What do you think? Am I a puritan or the things that are now socially acceptable are way more vulgar than the ones I used to see when I was younger?

Oh! Before I forget! Here's the scheme of Emo's "family tree" xD

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed it!! I will post the history of Punk asap, but I can't say when.Stay tuned xD

Emocrunk or the abscence of Creativity. (Pt 2)

Chapter Two: Emo of the new century

Sk8er punks + "Sweetness"= Broadway style funerals w/dancing corpses called Helena

(If you feel lost at some point, you should read Part One before)

Now we're around year 2000, Britney is thin and innocent and Tony Hawk is everyone's hero. Teenagers are too young to know Sunny Day Real Estate, but they do know Jimmy Eat World, the radio is infested with pop punk, skater looking bands like Blink 182 and Green Day (And Avril Lavigne when she was a sk8r gurl), the bands responsibles of the 2005's Pop Punk Revival.

The kids who were old enough to have their bands are the ones who caused the Pop Punk Revival, and since they grew up listening not only Blink 182 but also Weezer, emo was mixed in their music as one of their biggest influences. The explosion and jump to mainstream of this new kind of emo, now mixed with punk, was, if I'm not making a mistake, when my Chemical Romance released their single "Helena". And also, the Warped Tour and the Taste of Chaos helped a lot, having punk and new-emo bands together in the biggest rock fests of the country. That was the beggining of an era.

I remember reading all over school "The Used" because a girl wrote it in all the restrooms of the school, and I also remember being like "who the hell feels so used that she writes it everywhere??!!!" Also, I remember that girl who went to prom with a dress like Helena's black and red one. (mine was like the one Amy Lee was wearing on Evanescence's "My Inmortal" video so I can't critizice her xD) I bet you and all the people older than 17 have some similar stories.

The bands considered as representatives of this part of the history of emo are My Chemical Romance, The Used and Taking Back Sunday, but, if we consider what emo was like before this mess, I think the bands who are more sticked to the emo aestethics, (and I'm not talking about those riddiculous hairstyles and painted pants, I'm talking about music aesthetics) are The Academy Is..., Dashboard Confessional, Senses Fail and Paramore; or what do you think? Here are some videos to make you easier to compare:

(Sorry, I know I already used this one but it's the only good video with embed code available)

The Academy Is... - Seed (live in leak - MTVU)

Taking Back Sunday - Make Damn Sure

I think MCR and what is called emo now is actually the beggining of screamo and not emo as it is, don't you think MCR sounds more like this:

Underoath - Writing On The Walls

Than like this?:

and, if you have any doubt why Paramore should be included, here's your answer:

As a conclusion for this chapter, I would like to proclaim The Academy Is the best emo band of the generation. Are you with me?

Thanks for reading!! I know you still want to critizice The Millionaires, but don't worry, I'll post part 3 ASAP!!

Emocrunk or the abscence of Creativity. (Pt 1)

Chapter One: The History of Emo as a credible music genre

"Is it real or it's a Fugazi?"

The first years of this new century have been distinguished by the lack of a new genre representativeof this generation, it seems like all the new rock music revolves around a few genres and their mixes: Punk pop/Powerpop, Emo and Hardcore, (if you don't believe me, go to the Warped Tour), being Emo the most popular one with the biggest amount of fans, but, for those young teens who are ingenuous don't know about the history of their favorite music, I'm sorry to dissapoint you but emo wasn't invented by My Chemical Romance, this generation is probably guilty responsible of just emocruk and everything that makes real musicians ashamed, but before starting to critizice emo and emocrunk, let me give you a little introduction to the history of this genre:

In 1984, a band called Hüsker Dü released their 3d album called "Zen Arcade", a record that is considered the father of all the Alternative movement in the 90's; one of the genres that was born under the alternative movement was the Hardcore Punk, whose pioneers and maybe creators were the bands Bad Brains, Minor Threat and Black Flag. Some time later, Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat founded a band called Embrace, probably the first emocore band. Some time later, Ian and Guy Picciotto from post-hardcore band Rites of Spring (a band that was formed to protest against hardcore's agresiveness with melodic guitars and deeply, impassioned lyrics), formed the band Fugazi as a reaction against all the violence in the hardcore scene. These two bands (Embrace and Fugazi) are the first bands that belong to the Emotional Core genre.

In the mid-90's bands as Sunny Day Real Estate, The Promise Ring and Fugazi itself were in charge of keeping the genre alive, but Weezer and Jimmy Eat World (whose album "Static Prevails" is considered the first emo record released by a big label) were the ones who took it to mainstream and influenced the new generation of emo bands. You should ask William Beckett check them out, you can learn something about music. (but seriously, William Beckett knows a lot about this.)

And no didactic material is complete without audiovisual support, so here's a taste of what you have read, the beggining of the history of Emo in videos:

Thanks for reading!! I know you wanted to critizice The Millionaires, but don't worry, parts 2 and 3 are coming soon!!

CheapMusicReviews:The Walls Have Teeth

The Walls Have Teeth is a hardcore band from Dallas, Texas.

I was impressed with this hardcore band. Until I heard the songs "Beauty is Her Weapon of Choice" and "JCLS". TWHT is a really good band; they have some songs recorded live and it seems like they are very good in concert, but the vocals on those songs really dissapointed me. The rest of their songs are good, I think; I don't know if someone else sang the songs I told you, but the rest of them don't have that problem. They have a couple of little flaws like all the amateur bands (if I can call them that) but noting really noticeable or that really lowers their level.

I think their lyrics tend to be a bit about protest against authority, more that other bands I've heard.

Maybe if they make an effort, they can be part of the new generation of hardcore bands (you know, every scene renews itself after certain amount of years, I think the average it's around 5 years.). I think it's time for the harcore scene to let new bands in.
Anyway, listen TWHT and tell me what you think about them.

CheapMusicReviews: A West Way Home

A West Way Home it's not really a band, it's a solo project of Seann Bowe, from Paramore's homeland, Franklin, Tennesse; navigating though the seas of Indie and acoustic; also a couple of his songs have some electronic/ambient taste.

I have to recognize his effort, he recorded and produced all by himself; yet, the good intentions are not all that counts when it comes to music. His song "For My Own Good" reminds me a lot of the first time I heard Stereo Skyline!, unfortunately, in a bad way, it sounds more like a copy than a band in the same style.

His relaxed, acoustic songs are a bit better, at least they sound more original, but, without all the electronic play he made, his voice doesn't sound well, I mean, he's probably a good singer, but he just don't know it yet. He needs to work on his vocals because he screams every once in a while, also, he doesn't hit the right note sometimes.

Despite all this, you might like his music, it's kind of moody, and it's not that bad. After all, if you like it or not it's your decision.

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more reviews, and if you know an unsigned band that you think is good and should be reviewed, pease drop me a note with the link of their myspace profile!

CheapMusicReviews: Running With Giants

Running With Giants it's a pop punk band from Maryland.

A girl on the vocals. I was expecting them to sound like Paramore. Not at all. Finally! I don't know why, but most of the beginner bands with a female lead singer that I've heard sound at least a little like Hayley William's band.

Running With Giants are actually pretty good, with a lot of distortion on their guitars and awesome drums, their music sound kind of hard, more punk than pop, but the vocals makes it lighter and more pleasant to our ears, I really like that. In general, I love when the music's trashy, punky and the voice is sweet, and this band is a good example of it.

The conclusion here is: Maybe they're not the most awesome, shocking, innovative band, but I WIDELY recommend them.

Also, they're touring with a couple of good bands that I already reviewed on my blog: Crush, the Everlasting and Colin Healy and the Jetskis, so, catch them if you can, check their Myspace profile for dates.

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more reviews, and if you know an unsigned band that you think is good and should be reviewed, pease drop me a note with the link of their myspace profile!
